Transforming Language Learning through Social Interaction.
Bonga is an innovative language-learning software solution designed for young children. Created by an education expert. They emphasize learning the English language in a social context, providing a unique and engaging approach to language acquisition. As Bonga looked to expand its offerings and improve its user interface, it partnered with WellPal Creative to build its minimum viable brand (MVB) and minimum viable product (MVP).
Challenge
The challenge was to create a brand and a product that encapsulated Bonga’s unique approach to language learning; in 4 WEEKS ! The brand needed to be youthful and modern, but not too harsh, evoking a sense of fun and social interaction rather than a technical solution. The product, a web app, needed to be intuitive and effective, facilitating private education collectives in their efforts to help students learn English socially.
Solution
WellPal Creative employed its signature tools, WellPal Signature Visuals™ and WellPal Ideation & Prototyping (WIP)™, to bring Bonga’s vision to life.
WPC Signature Visuals
We developed a soft, modern color palette that perfectly captured Bonga’s youthful and engaging brand identity. Custom key visuals and mascots were designed to embody the brand’s ethos and serve as key elements for onboarding across different touchpoints. These visuals not only helped to create a strong brand image but also enhanced user engagement and interaction.
WPC Ideation & Prototyping (WIP)™
In the product development phase, we employed our WIP methodology to create an intuitive and effective web app. We began with standard language libraries, training the app to learn from conversational patterns as well as the concepts and structures provided by the educational experts behind Bonga. This approach allowed us to develop an MVP within the project timeline of 4-5 weeks, providing Bonga with a functional product that could be tested and refined.
Future Considerations
As Bonga considers the future, the potential to incorporate artificial intelligence and language learning models (LLM) into its software is a promising prospect. With the development of AI and more accessible LLM, Bonga could further enhance its software, providing an even more effective and engaging language learning experience for its users.
Our work with Bonga exemplifies WellPal Creative’s ability to rapidly develop compelling brands and products that resonate with their target audience. By understanding Bonga’s unique value proposition and leveraging our signature tools, we were able to create a brand and product that truly encapsulates Bonga’s innovative approach to language learning.

In our experience, the collaboration between a designer and a developer from the inception of a project is a powerful strategy that can significantly enhance the outcome. This approach allows for a seamless integration of design and functionality, fostering a holistic development process that ensures the final product is both aesthetically pleasing and technically robust.
Working with our senior software engineering partner, Vlad, we were able to bring Bonga’s UI to life. Vlad’s expertise and our design acumen allowed us to iterate quickly, reducing the time between ideation and implementation. This symbiotic relationship enabled us to create a product that not only looks great but works flawlessly, providing an optimal user experience.
Bonga was developed as a web platform to ensure accessibility and convenience. With the rise of digital learning, educational tools need to be readily available on various devices. By choosing a web platform, we enabled Bonga to be accessed anywhere from any device with internet access – be it a laptop, iPhone, or Android device.
The platform incorporates social features such as parent sign up, child login, chat, and grading. These features allow for interactive learning, fostering a sense of community and making the language learning process more engaging and enjoyable for students. The grading system, which evaluates sentences based on grammar, correctness, and other English language features, provides valuable feedback and encourages continual learning and improvement.
The tech stack for Bonga was carefully chosen to ensure optimal performance and user experience. For the front end, we used NextJs, a React framework known for its efficiency and flexibility. JavaScript, HTML, and CSS provided the foundation for creating an interactive and visually appealing interface. Lottie Animations were also incorporated to create engaging and dynamic visuals that enhance the user experience.
The backend of Bonga was built with Supabase, an open-source Firebase alternative. Supabase provides a robust and scalable solution, offering real-time databases, instant APIs, and user management functionality. This choice allowed us to create a secure and efficient backend infrastructure that supports Bonga’s interactive features and ensures smooth operation.
The data is stored in a Postgres database, a powerful, open-source object-relational database system known for its reliability, data integrity, and accuracy. This choice ensures that all user data and interactions are securely stored and managed, providing a stable and reliable platform for Bonga’s users.
